When to Use

  • Making a small motif into a larger, tileable pattern
  • Expanding a design to reach a specific print dimension
  • Adding variation to edges of a pattern for natural look

Pro Tips

💡

For best seamless results, extend equal amounts on opposite sides (e.g., 100px left AND right).

💡

Keep creativity at 20-30% for consistent pattern extension. High creativity adds unexpected elements.

💡

Check 4x tile preview before downloading to spot seam issues that aren't visible in single view.

What to Expect

✅

Best Results

  • Repeating patterns with clear structure
  • Abstract or organic flowing designs
  • Consistent color palettes throughout
  • Extensions under 50% of original size
  • Designs with strong visual rhythm
⚠️

Limited Results

  • Unique, non-repeating artwork
  • Very large extensions (>100% of original)
  • Designs with text or specific shapes
  • Highly detailed realistic imagery
  • Patterns requiring exact symmetry

Real-World Examples

Panel Design to Yardage

A designer created a 12-inch floral panel but the production requires 24-inch continuous yardage. The design needs seamless extension on left and right. Before: 12×12 inch floral panel, hard edges, not tileable. After (200px each side): Extended to 24 inches wide, seamless continuation of florals. Settings: 200px left/right, Creativity: 25%, Make Seamless: On.

Cropped Design Recovery

An archive design file was accidentally cropped, cutting off the bottom portion. The AI extension can recover and complete the pattern. Before: Paisley design cut off at bottom, incomplete motifs visible. After (150px bottom): Paisley motifs completed, natural pattern continuation. Settings: 150px bottom only, Creativity: 35%.

Border Design Creation

A small motif needs to become a horizontal border design. Extension creates repeating elements to form a continuous border strip. Before: Single leaf motif, 500×200px original. After (400px left/right): Continuous leaf border, repeating vine pattern. Settings: 400px left + right, prompt: "continuing vine pattern".
