Prepare Files for Textile Printing

Learn how to prepare production-ready files for textile printing. Covers formats, resolution, color modes, and quality control.

File Format Selection

Choose the right format for your print method. TIFF is preferred for high-quality production, PNG for digital workflows, PSD for layered files. Avoid JPEG for final production files due to compression artifacts.

TIFF:Best for production printing, lossless
PNG:Digital printing, transparency support
PSD:Layered files for color separations
PDF:Vector work, screen print films

Resolution Requirements

Textile printing typically requires 150-300 DPI at actual print size. Higher resolutions increase file size without improving print quality. Always confirm DPI requirements with your printer.

  • Digital printing: 150-200 DPI
  • Screen printing: 200-300 DPI
  • Rotary printing: 150-200 DPI
  • Large format: 100-150 DPI

Color Mode Setup

Work in the correct color mode from the start. RGB for digital inkjet printing, CMYK for traditional processes. For spot color work, use Pantone libraries.

  • RGB: Digital inkjet, dye sublimation
  • CMYK: Traditional 4-color process
  • Spot: Screen printing, exact colors
  • LAB: Color conversion accuracy

Seamless Repeat Check

Verify your pattern tiles seamlessly. Test by placing multiple copies in a grid. Check for visible seams, density issues, and any elements that create obvious repeat patterns.

  • No visible seams at edges
  • Even density throughout
  • No 'highways' or obvious lines
  • Works at various scales
