How to make a seamless pattern — the classical way

A seamless pattern is just an image where the left edge matches the right edge, and the top edge matches the bottom edge. When you tile it in a grid — on fabric, on a website background, on an iPhone wallpaper — the joins disappear and you see one continuous surface.

The classical trick used by Photoshop, Procreate, and every serious textile tool is called offset + heal. You shift the image by half its width and half its height, wrapping the pixels around. The ugly seam that used to sit at the edges now runs through the middle of the image, where it's visible — and where you can feather it smoothly into the surrounding content with a gradient mask. Our Blend mode does exactly this, automatically, in your browser.

Mirror modeis a different approach: it reflects the top-left corner into all four quadrants. The result is a kaleidoscope tile that's guaranteed seamless because of the symmetry. It looks artificial on busy images but is beautiful on organic textures, and it never fails regardless of the source content.

Who uses this? Surface-pattern designers building repeat swatches, print-on-demand sellers generating product backgrounds, textile designers prototyping fabric motifs, iOS/Android devs making tileable wallpapers, web designers adding subtle textures to hero sections, and Procreate users expanding their brush and pattern libraries. Verify the tile actually seams correctly with our Seamless Checker — it shows a 3×3 grid so you can spot any residual seams before committing the pattern to production.

Common use cases

What people make seamless patterns for

Make a seamless pattern from a photo

Drop a photo — plant leaves, marble texture, fabric swatch, rust, or wood grain — and Blend mode offsets and feathers the seams instantly. Result tiles cleanly across any surface. For photographic textures, Blend usually wins; for abstract or geometric sources, try Mirror instead.

Create a textile repeat swatch

For fabric production you need a clean repeat that tiles without visible joins at 300 DPI across a printable area. Generate the seamless tile here, then enlarge it with our AI Image Upscaler at 2× or 3× for production-ready fabric runs — the upscaler preserves seamlessness because it works on the already-tiling image.

Generate a tileable wallpaper for web or mobile

iOS/Android apps and web backgrounds often use small seamless tiles rather than one huge image — smaller download, cleaner look at any viewport. Export PNG directly from Blend or Mirror mode and drop into your app's asset pipeline. No CSS tricks needed.

Prep a pattern for print-on-demand products

Print-on-demand platforms (leggings, pillows, phone cases, duvets) require seamless tileable artwork. Generate the tile here, then convert format for the platform's spec with our Format Converter (most POD platforms want PNG or TIFF at specific dimensions).

Turn abstract art into a kaleidoscope tile

Mirror mode reflects the image into all four quadrants, producing a guaranteed-seamless kaleidoscope pattern. Ideal for scarves, wallpaper borders, yoga-mat graphics, and any surface where symmetry is a feature rather than a bug. Works on almost any source because of the reflection — even when Blend fails.

Create a Procreate or Photoshop pattern brush source

Pattern brushes and fill patterns need tileable sources to work correctly when painted or masked across an image. Generate here, export PNG, drop into Procreate's Gallery > Settings > Import or Photoshop's Pattern panel. Workflow-friendly.

How it works

Four steps, no signup

01
1

Upload any image

Drop any JPG, PNG, or WEBP up to 10MB — a texture photo, a hand-painted motif, a fabric swatch, a scanned drawing. Works on anything that has repeating or natural texture.

02
2

Pick a seamless mode

Blend is the default and looks most natural — it offsets your image and heals the seam. Mirror flips the corners for a kaleidoscope-style tile, which is guaranteed seamless but visibly symmetric.

03
3

Preview the tile

See a live 3×3 preview of your pattern tiled so you can spot any visible seams before downloading. Adjust the blend strength until it reads as one continuous surface.

04
4

Download the seamless PNG

Export a lossless PNG at the original resolution — ready for textile printing, digital wallpapers, Procreate, Illustrator pattern swatches, or web backgrounds. Your upload is never stored, copied, or used for training.

Why Texloom

Built for real pattern work

Free seamless generators are a dime a dozen — most bolt a watermark onto your output, most cap resolution at 512px, most require a signup. Ours does none of that.

Two proven algorithms

Blend for natural-looking tiles on textures and photos. Mirror for guaranteed-seamless kaleidoscope patterns on abstract art.

Live 3×3 tile preview

See your pattern repeated before you download. Tweak blend strength and instantly check whether seams still show.

Full resolution output

Up to 2048×2048 lossless PNG in the free tool. The Pro studio goes to 8K for production textile printing.

Your image stays yours

Everything instant. Nothing uploads, nothing stores, nothing trains on your work. Ever.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Q.Is the seamless pattern maker really free?
Yes — completely free, no signup, no daily limit, no watermarks on the output. Runs instantly using canvas compositing, so there's no server cost for us to pass on.
Q.What's the difference between Blend and Mirror modes?
Blend offsets your image so the natural seam (where left edge meets right edge) falls in the middle, then feathers a gradient-blended strip across it. Your content stays recognisable — good for hand-painted motifs, fabric swatches, and photographs. Mirror reflects the top-left quarter into all four corners; the result tiles perfectly by construction but the symmetry is obvious, which can look artificial on busy images.
Q.Will my pattern actually tile without visible seams?
In Mirror mode, yes — mathematically guaranteed. In Blend mode, seams are usually invisible on textures (wood, fabric, stone, organic patterns) but may show on images with strong horizontal or vertical lines. Increase the blend strength to soften visible seams, or choose an image with more organic variation.
Q.What file types are supported?
Input: JPG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF up to 10MB. Output: lossless PNG at the original resolution (capped at 2048×2048 for browser performance). For print-resolution work at higher dimensions, our Pro studio includes the tool at full 8K.
Q.Can I use this for commercial textile printing?
Yes. You retain full rights to your uploads and the tileable output. We don't claim ownership of anything you make here. The PNG output is production-quality for screen printing, digital textile printing, and print-on-demand services.
Q.Is my image private?
Yes. Your image never leaves your device — when you close the tab, it's gone. Never stored, never used for training, never shared.
Q.What makes a good seamless pattern image?
Organic textures (fabric, wood, stone, foliage, water) work beautifully — they hide the seam naturally. Repeating motifs (florals, geometric tiles, polka dots) also work well if you crop to one clean unit first. Portraits, single objects on plain backgrounds, and images with strong directional lighting are harder — the seam tends to show.
Q.How is this different from Procreate's or Photoshop's seamless filter?
Same classical offset-and-heal technique — instant, no app install. For simple seamless tiling it produces the same quality. For complex reconstruction (removing watermarks, regenerating missing parts), a Photoshop workflow with Content-Aware Fill still wins — that's what our Pro studio gives you.
