What is AI image upscaling?

AI image upscaling makes a picture bigger and better. Instead of simply stretching pixels — which produces blur, halos, and ringing — our AI analyses the image, understands what it's looking at, and adds real detail that didn't exist before. The result is sharper edges, cleaner textures, and legible type at a size the original couldn't support.

For textile and print work, this matters more than in consumer photography. A 1500×1500 pattern destined for a 30cm repeat at 300 DPI needs to reach 3543×3543 before it's production-ready — you can check the exact target resolution for your run with our Print Calculator. Ordinary upscaling loses weave detail and introduces moiré; our AI preserves motif structure while hitting the resolution you need. If you're working from a scanned swatch with visible halftone or moiré, run it through the AI Texture Remover first for a clean starting point. The upscaler itself is tuned specifically for textile and surface-design work, so fabric weaves and motif edges come through crisp at 4K, 8K, or full 16K print resolution.

Free vs Pro

Smart Upscale vs AI Enhance

Smart Upscale (what you're using here) is our instant preset-tuned enhancement — the same engine paid Studio users run on the free mode. AI Enhance is a different beast: full Texloom AI that rebuilds detail and fixes blur.

What people use our AI upscaler for

Upscale an image to 4K

Our AI image upscaler turns a standard 1080p image into a 4K (3840×2160) version in one click with the 2× preset — no subscription, no card, no watermark. edge-preserving resampling and edge-aware sharpening keep lines, type, and pattern detail crisp instead of just stretching pixels. If your source is blurry or heavily compressed to begin with, pair it with our AI Image Sharpener first for cleaner 4K output.

Upscale a JPG for free

Drop a JPG straight in — no conversion needed. The upscaler reads JPG/JPEG, PNG, WEBP, and TIFF natively, preserves EXIF orientation on portrait photos, and exports a clean PNG with an alpha channel. Need a different output format instead? Our Format Converter handles PNG → JPG / WEBP / TIFF with quality control.

Upscale a low-resolution image without losing quality

The combination of edge-preserving resampling and edge-recovery pass is specifically designed to recover edge acuity on low-res inputs without introducing the halos or ringing artefacts that small-kernel sharpening creates. For photos below 1000px, the Photo preset gives the most natural lift; for textile swatches below 500px, Textile preserves weave geometry best.

AI photo enhancer for blurry shots

For mildly soft photos, Smart Upscale with the Photo preset recovers edge acuity and adds perceived sharpness without over-correcting skin tones. For genuinely blurry inputs — motion blur, out-of-focus shots, heavy JPG compression — the AI Image Sharpener or AI Enhance mode (free with signup) runs the Texloom AI that rebuilds detail instead of just sharpening what's already there.

Upscale textile patterns and scanned artwork

The Textile preset is tuned on fabric data — sharpenThreshold 12 so fine thread and weave detail isn't flattened, and noise reduction held to 0.15 so scan texture is preserved. Ideal for vintage pattern archives or hand-drawn repeats heading to production. If your scan has moiré or halftone dots, run it through our AI Texture Remover first, then upscale.

Upscale to 8K, 12K, or 16K

For production print, 4× scale unlocks outputs up to 16384×16384 px — enough headroom for large-format wall panels, 300 DPI fabric runs, or billboard reproduction from a moderate-resolution source. 4× requires a free account; the algorithm itself is the same studio-grade Smart Upscale, the cap is the gate. Check Print Calculator before choosing a scale.

When to use 2×, 3×, or 4×

2×

Web → product photo

E-commerce images, social media assets, pattern previews. Fast, predictable, rarely needs more.

3×

Sample → design review

Low-res scans of hand-drawn art, vintage pattern archives, client reference images you need to present clearly.

4×

Reference → production

Turning a moodboard image into a printable repeat. Legacy artwork recovery. Anything headed for large-format output at 300 DPI.

How it works

Four steps, two minutes

01
1

Upload your image

Drop any JPG, PNG, or WEBP up to 10MB. Works with photos, patterns, logos, and scans.

02
2

Pick a scale factor

Choose 2×, 3×, or 4× upscaling based on your output size. 4× is ideal for large-format production printing.

Download the result

Export as PNG or TIFF at up to 16000×16000 pixels. Lossless, production-ready.

Why Texloom

Built for production work

Most free upscalers cap at 2× or watermark their output. Ours doesn't.

No watermarks, ever

Every output is clean — free or paid. No logos, overlays, or hidden marks.

Color fidelity preserved

Delta E <2.0 against source — the tolerance commercial print actually requires.

Production-grade output

Up to 16000×16000 pixels. Ready for rotary, digital, and wide-format.

Pattern-aware AI

Tuned on textile data. Weaves and motifs come out crisper than on generic upscalers.

FAQ

Frequently asked

Q.Is the AI image upscaler really free?
Yes — your first 2 upscales per day are free with no signup required. After that, sign up (no credit card) to get 100 free credits, enough for around 10 more upscales plus access to every other Texloom tool.
Q.How much can I upscale my image?
You can upscale 2×, 3×, or 4×. A 2000×2000 source image goes up to 8000×8000 at 4× — large-format production quality. Maximum output is 16000×16000 pixels.
Q.Does AI upscaling reduce image quality?
No. Our AI analyzes your image and intelligently adds detail — sharper edges, clearer textures, and cleaner lines — instead of just stretching pixels. The result is usually higher quality than the source.
Q.What file types are supported?
Input: JPG, PNG, WEBP, TIFF up to 10MB per image. Output: PNG (transparency preserved) or TIFF (lossless). For production printing we recommend TIFF at 4× scale.
Q.Is my uploaded image private?
Yes. Images are processed with zero retention, deleted from our systems within 24 hours, and never used to train any model. Your uploads stay yours.
Q.How is this different from other free upscalers?
Most free upscalers cap at 2× or watermark their output. Ours goes to 4× and 16K resolution with no watermark. We also preserve color fidelity (Delta E <2.0) — critical for textile and print work where exact color matters.
Q.Can I use upscaled images commercially?
Yes. You retain full rights to your uploads and the upscaled output. We don't claim any ownership over either. Use the results in products, prints, clients' projects — anywhere.
