Why colour separation matters, and what 'good' looks like
Screen printing needs one screen per colour. A 6-colour design needs six registered screens, each carrying only that colour's ink, so the design file has to be split into six clean colour channels with crisp edges.
Separation Studio groups your design's colours into the number of channels you set, or picks the count itself on Auto. Each channel is named after its nearest Texloom library colour, which gives your print shop a starting point for mixing ink.
Add up to 4px of trapping so neighbouring inks overlap slightly, turn on registration marks, and add a white underbase for dark garments in the PSD export. It works best on flat-colour artwork; photographic shading is split into the nearest colours rather than turned into halftone screens.
