Which format should I use?

PNGis the safe default for anything with transparency, sharp edges, or flat color — logos, icons, screenshots, illustrations, and UI exports. It's lossless, so the converted file is pixel-identical to the source. The tradeoff is file size: a complex photo saved as PNG can easily be 5–10× larger than the equivalent JPG.

JPGis the right choice for photographs and any image that doesn't need transparency. The quality slider lets you trade file size for visual fidelity — for most photos, anything above 85 is indistinguishable from the original to the human eye. JPG does not support transparency, so PNGs with see-through regions get a white background on conversion.

WebP is modern, supported by every current browser, and delivers ~25–35% smaller files than JPG at the same visual quality. Use it for web imagery where file size matters. Older software (pre-2020 Photoshop, some RIPs) may not open WebP.

TIFF is the professional print format. Our output uses LZW compression and embeds 300 DPI metadata — this is what textile print RIPs, offset presses, and commercial printers expect. Use it for final production files, never for web.

Q.Is the image format converter really free?
Yes — completely free, no signup, no usage limit, no watermarks. Unlike our AI tools this one runs as pure utility, so there's no credit cost for us to pass on.
Q.Which formats are supported?

Q.Is the EXIF metadata really removed?
Yes — automatically, every time. Camera serial, GPS coordinates, shutter count, edit software, and timestamps are all stripped during conversion. You can verify this with our free EXIF Viewer tool after downloading.
Q.Can I convert multiple files at once?
Not in this free tool — it's single-file only to stay fast and simple. Batch mode with ZIP download is available in our Pro studio on signup (free, no card).
Q.What's the file size limit?
10 MB per image. Very large images (30+ megapixels) will take a few seconds to process — the conversion is deterministic, so a repeat upload behaves identically.
Q.Does converting lose quality?
PNG and TIFF conversions are lossless — pixel-identical to the source. JPG and WebP are lossy; use the quality slider to control the tradeoff (90+ is visually indistinguishable from the original for most photos).
Q.Will my TIFF files open in Photoshop / InDesign?
Yes. Output TIFFs use LZW compression and embed 300 DPI metadata by default — standard for print workflows. Opens cleanly in Adobe tools, Affinity, Procreate, and every major print RIP.
Q.Can I resize while converting?
Yes. Toggle resize on and set max width / max height — the largest side is fitted to the cap and aspect ratio is preserved. We never upscale beyond the original dimensions (use the AI Image Upscaler for that).
Q.Is my image private?
Yes. Your file is deleted the moment you close the tab — we never retain converted files, never use them for training, never share with any third party. EXIF is always stripped.
Q.Why is my JPG output bigger than the PNG input?
Usually happens with graphics that have large flat areas — PNG compresses runs of identical pixels very efficiently, while JPG spends bits describing every block. For photos the reverse is true. Stick with PNG for logos and graphics, JPG for photographs.
